Usually during O&M we use a Wheatley Picture maker (that neat map with the velcro and all the cool little pieces) to make tactile maps. What do you do if you don't have a fancy tactile map kit?
This week go to your kitchen table or coffee table and make a map of a room in your house. There are lots of small bottles and boxes in the kitchen. Which items can you use to represent different things in the room? Take a picture of the map you make and send it to me. You can also make a map of a route using silverware. Lay down a spoon for each block you travel and turn the spoon right or left to represent each turn. Make a map to a nearby park or shop. Make a routes that are letter shaped like a z, a u, or an L. You can make a map like this with parents or friends anytime you need directions using small objects to help you understand the route or you are telling someone else how to get somewhere.
